You don’t wake up one day completely burned out. It's subtle at first.
You’re just tired. Then you’re irritable. Then everything feels heavy. Then the smallest thing makes you snap… or shut down.
If you’ve been turning to Dr. Google to find out “why am I so stressed,” this is probably more than a rough week.
Let’s talk about what’s actually happening.

What is Emotional Exhaustion?
Emotional exhaustion is the core of burnout. It’s what happens when your nervous system has been in survival mode for too long.
It’s not weakness.
It’s not a lack of gratitude.
It’s not you “not praying enough.”
It’s your body saying: I have been carrying too much for too long.
When stress becomes chronic, your system doesn’t get the signal that it’s safe to rest. You stay on alert. Over time, that constant activation drains you emotionally, mentally, and physically and even spiritually.
Common Burnout Symptoms
Burnout doesn’t just show up at work. It spills into everything.
Here are some high-frequency burnout symptoms I see:
Feeling emotionally numb or detached
Snapping at people you love
Dreading responsibilities you used to handle fine
Trouble sleeping even though you’re exhausted
Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
Increased headaches or body tension
“I just don’t care anymore” energy
Wanting to withdraw from everyone
You might still be functioning. But you're only surviving.
That’s emotional exhaustion.
Why Am I So Stressed All the Time?
Burnout is not just mental. It’s physiological.
When your body lives in fight-or-flight, stress hormones stay elevated. Your system doesn’t complete the stress cycle. There’s no true reset.
You might:
Overwork
Over-function in relationships
Over-spiritualize instead of process
Shut down emotionally
Or swing between hyper-productivity and collapse
That cycle is exhausting. And you cannot mindset your way out of a dysregulated nervous system. You have to slow it down. Safely. Intentionally.
The Lie Burnout Tells You
Burnout whispers:
“You’re just ungrateful.”
“Other people have it worse.”
“You should be able to handle this.”
“Don’t be dramatic.”
But here’s the truth:
Your body doesn’t lie. If you are emotionally exhausted, it makes sense. There is a reason.
Healing isn’t about doing more. It’s about understanding what your system has been carrying.
You Don't Have to Stay Like This
If you’re searching burnout symptoms at 12am while everyone else is asleep… that’s not random.
Something in you knows this isn’t sustainable.
Therapy isn’t just about talking. It’s about:
Regulating your nervous system
Learning real boundaries (not walls)
Untangling people-pleasing patterns
Processing stress and trauma safely
Rebuilding connection with yourself and God without shame
You deserve to feel steady. You deserve rest that actually restores you.You deserve support.
If emotional exhaustion has become your normal, it’s time for something different.
